regulations

regulations
A form of law which emanates from the European Union (EU). Regulations are directly applicable in all member states, binding in their entirety over the goal to be pursued and the form of implementation. Much of the day-to-day management of the Common Agricultural Policy is conducted via regulations. Regulations may also refer to the system of rules via which public sector organisations and companies are expected to operate, in order that the public interest may be promoted and preserved. State regulatory activity has increased in recent years with many new regulatory bodies, ranging from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The EU has introduced further regulation into British life, especially in areas such as health and safety, the workplace and the environment.
